Parenting by Design was created to help parents understand the Biblical model for parenting their children. It is a faith-based parenting series that compares current parenting paradigms to the ageless parenting principles in the Bible.

  • The classes include an examination of the parent's current goals and methods and compares them to the goals and methods presented in the Bible.

  • We look at how kids really learn - through experience, example and an empathetic self-examination.

  • We turn to the types of parenting styles prevalent today, and how to adjust your style to be more effective.

  • The stages of child development are covered so parents can understand some of the reasons for a child's behavior at different stages of their lives.

  • We look at age-appropriate choices, consequences and the empathy required to make it all work.

The goal of Parenting by Design is to significantly increase the odds of raising kids with the skills necessary to make good choices when they are out of the home, by practicing these skills while they are in the home.

Chris was a Briefing Attorney for the Supreme Court of Texas and an attorney for a Fort Worth law firm before becoming a small business entrepreneur in 1986. He was a partner in accounting, communications and printing businesses before Parenting By Design.

His focus changed when he and his wife, Michelle, began a difficult trial involving their children. After finding God's provision in the midst of this challenge, it became clear to Chris that he was being called to a ministry to families. He is currently working on a Masters degree in Biblical Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary and is the Director of Education for Restoration.

Chris is a Parenting by Design speaker and a mediator for disputes between Christians. Mediation allows him to use his law degree and his prospective counseling degree together to help Christians resolve disputes outside the courthouse.

An extremely difficult situation involving their son motivated the Groffs to try a new parenting approach. Through implementation of these principles and by God's grace, they saw tremendous restoration for their family and an opportunity to help other struggling parents.

Michelle teaches Parenting By Design classes and is co-author of the curriculum.  She is currently attending Dallas Theological Seminary, pursuing a Biblical Counseling degree. Michelle frequently speaks to schools and churches on parenting issues and does a significant amount of lay counseling and coaching for parents.  She and Chris have been married 26 years and have two sons, Ben, age 23 and Bob, age 21.
