  • Guest Expert Trainings
We invite guest experts to provide specialized training on diverse skills related to parenting. Each session includes time for questions. With a different topic each week, here are trainings we currently offer: 1. STAYING CALM UNDER SIEGE Learn to remain calm when your child screams at you, throws a tantrum, shifts blame, shirks responsibility and is outrageously disrespectful. Acquire new tools to avoid exploding or completely shutting down. Discover how to: Disarm your underlying triggers Stop yelling, threatening, bribing and shaming Provide what your child needs from you in these moments Engage your child to help reduce conflict Have healthy conflict that leads to long-term connection Start building a toolkit of skills to respond peacefully under siege. 2. MANAGING STRESS & ANXIETY WHEN PARENTING IS PAINFUL Raising a strong-willed child, while managing your own emotions and juggling responsibilities, can make your stress and anxiety soar. Discover how to: Create healthier physiological responses with techniques to use 'in the moment' Align your mind and body with simple routines to align your body and mind Practice calming skills to help you re-focus and provide instant stress relief 3. YOUR INNER-CRITIC IS YOUR BEST FRIEND You probably heard your inner-critic is sabotaging you and to replace your negative thoughts with positive affirmations. This often doesn't work. In this training, learn how your inner-critic is trying to protect you and is giving you signals you shouldn't ignore. Discover how to: Make your inner-critic an ally Determine what's triggering your inner-critic Address the underlying 'needs' of your inner-critic Use your inner-critic to plan for challenges and overcome unhealthy patterns 4. OVERCOMING GUILT No one taught us how to be a parent, especially of a challenging child. Making mistakes and relying on learned patterns is part of being a parent but guilt can be overwhelming and prevent progress. Discover how to: Focus on what you have control over Acknowledge and make amends for mistakes Understand what you don't have control over Celebrate what you're doing well Be a role model for overcoming setbacks with a positive outlook 5. HEALING TRAUMA FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD As parents, many of us are unexpectedly confronted with traumatic experiences and emotions we thought we had previously overcome. This is especially true for parents of strong-willed kids. Discover how to: Understand how trauma impacts your family Create rituals to help heal trauma for your unique situation Address feelings created by your own trauma vs. addressing negative behaviors from your child 6. WHAT YOU'VE LEARNED ABOUT NUTRITION IS PROBABLY WRONG Learn how to set your child up for epicurean success -- even if they are picky eaters, athletes, impulsive eaters or have allergies that impact the rest of the family. Discover how to: Provide food choices in ways that are empowering Ways to reduce meal-time conflicts Use techniques to make eating together more fun Manage different nutrition needs in the same household Minimize negative body image issues related to food 7. TURNING CO-PARENTING DIFFERENCES & CONFLICTS INTO SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIPS In all types of family arrangements (i.e.: married, divorced, blended), parents often have different styles and varying tolerances -- which conflict. Discover how to: Create alignment in your parenting goals whether you're divorced, married or in a blended family Navigate difficult conversations without making the other parent defensive Negotiate successfully with your ex, spouse, and child's caregivers Find middle ground to be more consistent about behavior expectations, routines, and boundaries Keep your relationship thriving while co-parenting Prevent parenting from taking over your entire relationship 8. DESIGNING & UPHOLDING HEALTHY BOUNDARIES If you're struggling with any of the following scenarios, this training is for you: 'I'm told I'm supposed to be consistent but flexible. It's hard to know when to hold the line and when to bend.' 'How do I get my child to listen the first time so I don't have to ask repeatedly?' 'My kids walk all over my partner or me.' 'My kids don't listen when I set a boundary and I feel resentful or disrespected.' 'I am too strict. I always say "no" because...' I'm afraid I am a perfectionist I want to have a sense of control My kid is a dangerous risk-taker Discover how to: Create healthy, consistent boundaries Guide rather than punish your child Attain more cooperation and better behavior Set the "right" consequence for unsavory behavior Establish reasonable standards for your child's specific needs 9. BUILDING GRIT & RESILIENCY WHEN YOUR CHILD IS STRUGGLING If you're encountering any of the following scenarios, this training is for you: My kid avoids challenges, big and small. My child gives up at the first sign of difficulty. My kid gets fixated on a problem and melts down. My child is easily frustrated and lashes out. When frustrated, it takes my child a long time to bounce back. They're too sensitive and hard on themselves. 'I'm dumb' is a label my child uses when they encounter a difficult problem or setback Discover how to: Help your child persevere with big and small challenges Coach your child through their frustration Support your child without rescuing them Equip your child with tools to develop confidence, perseverance, self-identity and healthy self esteem. 10. BE 'SELFISH' TO BE A BETTER PARENT When you become a parent, it's easy to lose your identity and have parenting overwhelm your entire life. Feeling like there's no time for self-care and to nurture personal relationships is a recipe for feeling lonely, stressed and depressed. Discover how to: Find what makes you happy, and ultimately, a better parent Reconnect with yourself to better connect with your child Implement a realistic and parent-friendly, self-care routine Stick to your routine and meet your happiness goals Nourish yourself inside and out to feel more energized, playful, and alive 11. NAVIGATING SCREEN TIME IN A PERVASIVE DIGITAL CULTURE We live in a society of contradictory screen time messages - but there are risks of addiction, exposure to self-esteem toxicity and negative brain development impacts. If you're struggling with how to manage the screen time conundrum, fighting with your child about limits and worried about what they see, this training will help you. Discover how to: Be a role model in engaging with screens Set screen limits that are fair and reasonable Understand the impacts -- and types -- of screen time Recognize signs of overuse and misuse Help motivate your child to participate in non-digital activities Engage your child to be part of creating a screen time plan 12. THRIVING WITH LEARNING & SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL DIFFERENCES If your child has (or you suspect has) ADHD, OCD, high sensitivity, trouble controlling their emotions, issues with impulse control or other learning and social-emotional challenges, parenting is incredibly difficult. It impacts your family and your relationships. Discover how to: Identify what's normal and not normal based on your child's developmental stage Adjust developmental expectations of this child Give the rest of your family, especially other children, the best of you -- not the rest of you Navigate social situations --including play dates, parties, sporting events, etc Engage teachers and coaches to help your child Embrace this child's challenges as their eventual superpowers Help your child respond to teasing and bullying Be the parent this child needs you to be
